Department of Children and Families
The Department of Children and Families (DCF) was previously the Department of Social Services (DSS). They are the state agency in charge of protecting children and helping troubled families.
- Investigates all reports that a child might be in danger of abuse or neglect.
- Goes to Court to acquire permission to take away children from their home if DCF claims that the children are in danger of abuse or neglect. A Legal Court can order you to accept services from DCF as a condition before getting your children back.
